Prepare for Bushfire Threat

Prepare for Bushfire Threat

While Manningham has enjoyed some good rainfall in recent days, residents should remember that the municipality is still in a fire danger period.

Cr Ron Kitchingman, said it was vital that households continue to prepare for the event of fire.

“The recent rainfall across Manningham has been absolutely wonderful, but Australia is still in one of its worst droughts ever.”

“The summer period brings a risk of fire to households across Manningham because of our proximity to bushland.”

“In essence, while beautiful parks and greenery make Manningham such an attractive place to live, these features also bring a fire danger on hot, dry days,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the chance of fire near their property by clearing away tree branches and green waste, a source of fuel for fire.

Manningham Council has offered residents vouchers so they can dispose their green waste for free, if living in Warrandyte, Warrandyte South, Wonga Park, Park Orchards and Donvale.

The vouchers provide free access to the Tikalara Waste Service Centre, on the corner of Blackburn and Webster roads, for Sunday 2 December and Sunday 9 December, between 9am and 3pm.
